Netbricks supports latest TiSpan standards with new SIP-based POTS to IM
CN interworking protocol
The new Netbricks interworking signaling protocol package IWF-Bricks POTS is fully
compliant with the latest TiSpan ETSI standards.

Paris, October 24, 2007, Press Release
- Network equipment vendors can realize FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) architectures more
easily and with lower risk thanks to Netbricks’ new protocol suite, which carries on the company’s
tradition of providing highly stable standards-compliant protocol stacks.
Netbricks’ IWF-Bricks POTS interworking package significantly shortens FMC product
development time, as Netbricks CEO and President Didier Raffenoux points out: “With our long-standing technology leadership in both legacy/TDM and NGN signaling protocol
stacks, we are the first TiSpan-compliant provider in the market. And as always, our 400-plus
loyal customers know they are getting a product that does not add to but cuts their development
effort. That is what Netbricks lives by – quality solutions that simply work.”
The ETSI TiSpan committee has worked hard to define FMC-related architecture and procedures.
The standard enables legacy and TDM equipment to connect to an IP multimedia core network
(IM CN) using IMS standards as an input and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) as the signaling
protocol for call control. While some ETSI gateway functionality standards for interworking
between analog and digital circuit-based equipment are still in draft form, the set as a whole is
now mature and stable enough to allow product development.
Covering the interworking between POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) and SIP, the Netbricks
IWF-Bricks POTS signaling package is a very complete implementation compliant with the ETSI
ES 283 003, as well as a series of other ETSI standards (TS 183 0xx). Its many supported
features such as overlap signaling, billing and conferencing result in a comprehensive solution
that needs much less integration effort.
The IWF-Bricks POTS package is the first of a set of products compliant with the new TiSpan
standards, all of them based on the familiar, highly stable SIP-Bricks product suite. Netbricks’
software emulation tool, NetLab-Bricks – which runs under both Linux and Windows and
emulates a P-CSCF (Proxy State Control Function) or an AGCF (Access Gateway Control
Function) – has also been updated to fully support the new capabilities.
